Arthur

   This was the 2011 Russell Brand remake. I have to say, I heard a whole lot of bad about it, but, I enjoyed it myself. A lot of people don't like Russell Brand, and I can see why, but, I think he's a funny guy and enjoy watching him in movies. After all the horror I had heard about this movie, I started it up cringing waiting to regret even starting it. It never happened though, I laughed quite a bit, and thought it was a pretty decent remake.

   A drunken playboy(Russell Brand) stands to lose all of his wealth when he falls in love with a woman his mother doesn't approve of. Trying to reign him in, his nanny(Helen Mirren) attempts to lead him in the right direction.

   Yeah, I don't know about that synopsis either, oh well, you get the idea. The movie was funny, had a few good laugh out load moments. It was however what I refer to as "stupid comedy" which is something, when done right, I just love to see. Perhaps that is one of the reasons I enjoy Russell Brand, he does a lot of stupid things that I find to be funny. I know a lot of people who would just find this movie dumb, but, I loved it.

   Now, I've seen the original Arthur, even know it was quite a bit before my time, it was, however, years ago when I say so I can't really compare this remake to the original. All I can say is I liked this version of Arthur, I thought it was funny, and well done. If you like comedy, and drunken benders, I'd definitely recommend this movie to you.

Paul

   I do love the combination of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, every movie I've seen that had them in it together has been great. This movie did not disappoint, it also probably helped that I'm just as big of a nerd as the characters they portrayed in the film. I didn't know what to expect with Seth Rogen voicing the alien, but, surprisingly it fit well.

    While on vacation in America for comic con, and a trip across the states to all the alien hot spots, Graeme and Clive come across a real alien running for his life, trying to get back home. An adventure that will turn these two nerds into heroes.

   The CGI could have been better, but, other then that it was a pretty fun movie. It was funny, and had good dialog. The story was fun and interesting, had a fare amount of action in it, overall I enjoyed it quite a bit.

    So, I say, you should watch this movie, especially if you enjoy any of the actors in it, or if you just a big nerd like me, it has a little for everyone. Even a small love story throughout, if you're in to that sort of thing. So take some time out of your day, sit on the couch and watch Paul, I don't think you'll regret it.

   

The Hangover Part 2

   I loved The Hangover, it was hands down the funnest movie that came out that year, so it's very safe to say I was really looking forward to this one. Was I let down? A little bit, I expected more from the sequel, but instead I got almost the exact same movie. And when I say exact, I mean almost to the letter, exact same movie.

   The Wolf pack is back, and this time their in Thailand for Stu's wedding, but, after waking up once again in a strange place with no memories of what happened the night before, and another missing friend, they have to retrace their steps from the previous night and hope they can still come out on top.

   See what I mean? Exact same movie, it was still very funny, but, not as funny as the previous movie. It did well in the box office though, in fact I have already read that they are writing the script for the third installment to this franchise. Did I enjoy the movie? Hell yes I did, it was funny, as I said, and even know it was the same plot from the last movie, it still worked.

   They may have recycled a few of the jokes from the last movie, but there was enough new material to keep me rolling throughout the film. Especially the scene with Stu and the rest of the Wolf pack in the Thai strip club. This movie however was much dirty then the last, not just language wise, but, full frontal male nudity wise. You should keep that in mind before you decide to watch this one. I do recommend this movie to everyone, whether you've seen the last one or not, you'll still laugh at this one.

Rango

   I know it's been awhile since my last post, but, hey, it's been awhile since the last movie I saw, and the last one I was was Rango. So, let's talk about it a little bit, shall we? It was better then I expected it to be, same story structure as every kids movie since the beginning of time, but, still had me laughing at a few of the parts throughout. I enjoyed it a enough to finish the movie, but, other then that, I doubt I'll ever think of this movie again.

   Rango follows a lizard who after an unfortunate event is left in the desert to fend for himself. Coming upon a town, he decides, since no one knows who he is, he could be anyone. Could this initiative put him in more danger then he's ready for? Or will he end up becoming the man he dreams to be.

   I really don't know what else to say about this movie, it was cute, had a few laugh out loud funny parts, but was very predictable. Had a few jokes, and throwbacks tossed in for the adults to keep them entertained, which I also liked. Other then that, it was forgettable.

   I doubt I'll ever watch this movie again, or even think about it again, that could be why this review is going to end up so sort. Even know I enjoyed the movie enough while I watched, I've already forgotten about it. I'd recommend it if you have any kids, or really enjoy Johnny Depp, otherwise, you aren't missing out on anything.

Hall Pass

   Let's start off with, this wasn't as funny as I thought it would be, not to say that it wasn't pretty funny though. Had a few good laughs through out the movie, but, most of the scenes that were suppose to be funny, really were just more awkward in my opinion. It was a very awkward funny movie I think, and that type of comedy just doesn't work well on me, I believe I commented on that in the past.

   Hall Pass follows two married men who still have their eyes on other women, with the delusion that they could nail those women if only they weren't married. Well, their wives fed up with the way their husbands have been thinking, decide to give them a one week free pass from marriage to let them do whatever they want. Will these guys get hit reality, or will their dream really come to fruition.

   The acting from the main characters was pretty good, but, the supporting cast was horrible. Ruined a lot of the immersion as the movie went on. The plot was very bare bones in my opinion, a very liner story line, with a few good laughs, and a lot of awkward-ness.

   I'd have to say, wait until this movie comes on your premium cable channels before watching it, you are really not missing out on much, I'd recommend it if you catch on and have nothing better to do. You really shouldn't go out of your way to watch this one though, not worth the trouble.

The Adjustment Bureau

   I didn't expect this film to be as interesting as it was. I was very glad to be wrong about that. It took a very scifi turn, that I didn't even know this movie had, guess I should start watching trailers for films more often. The acting was very good, one of the best performances from Matt Damon I've seen in awhile.

   What if there were people who made sure you life followed a certain path. On the days you start to drift from you set path, they may have you lose your keys, misplace your shoes. The Adjustment Bureau follows just that idea, but, no matter how hard they tried, could they really push a person into the path they want, or can people, through seer will make their own paths.

   It was a perfect blend of drama, romance, and with just the right amount of comedy sprinkled over top. This movie was very interesting, and will keep you guessing until the very end. The on screen chemistry between Matt Damon and Emily Blunt was palpable, was wonderful to watch.

   I didn't expect much from this movie, but was surprised, it was very well done, and paced. I definitely recommend seeing this movie, make time for it one night, or one rainy afternoon. It was worth the watch.

Super

   This movie was a lot different, and a lot better then I thought it would be. I was never a fan of the series The Office, and therefore, never really seen anything Rainn Wilson has done. This movie however, may have me invest a little more into his career. It was a awkward and weired movie, but, those type of movies always work with me.

   Super is about an ordinary man, a cook at a diner(Rainn Wilson). After his wife is taken it away from him under the guise of drugs form a local drug dealer, he decides to become a Super Hero, fight crime, and get his wife back from the man who took her. Along the way meeting a young girl(Ellen Page), who becomes his sidekick.

   This movie was actually extremely graphic then I expected it would be. I really don't know how else to explain this movie, I guess just an awkward, over the top, somewhat misguided super hero fights crime. That's about the best description I can come up with. I have to touch on the character played by Ellen Page just a little bit. She's crazy, and psychotic, she really made the movie something beyond just your man becomes hero films that seem to be pumping out these last few years.

   As I said earlier, even know this movie, for the lack of a better term was fucked up, I still enjoyed it, and would recommend it to anyone who is a fan of do-it-yourself superheroes. Just don't expect this super heroes moral compass to be as straight as other heroes you know.

Just Go With It

   I had forgotten all about this movie, until I happened to come across it the other day. I didn't even really know what it was going to be about, or even who was in it besides Jenifer Aniston and Adam Sandler, just because they were on the cover. So going in with no expectations prior, it was pretty funny.

   Just Go With It follows the life of a plastic surgeon (Adam Sandler) who uses a fake wedding ring to pick up girls. He so happens to find the woman of his dreams who believes he is married. Using his assistant (Jennifer Aniston) and her children he tries to convince Palmer (Brooklyn Decker) he is getting a divorce.

   That's basically what the movie is about it's basically the same old story when it comes to Hollywood "love stories". So, you know how that is going to end. Other then that, it was pretty funny, a little over the top in a few places, but, that's to be expected with Adam Sandler movies.

   I enjoyed watching it though, I laughed out loud a few times, which is always a good sign watching a comedy. Overall it wasn't to bad, if your fan of any of the actors in this movie, or you want to see Brooklyn Decker in a bikini, I recommend watching this.

Amélie

 I've been hearing about this movie for years, about how great it was, and I've always wanted to see it, just never found the time. Well, I finally found the time. It was worth it, I thought it was a pretty good movie. It was funny, and different, and overall a good watch.

Amélie is about a girl, lost in her imagination all through life, as an adult she decides to use her imagination to help those around her, wreck revenge on those who've done wrong, and help those who've lost faith in humanity, all while slowly falling in love with a man shes never spoken to.

  First of all, the movie was in French, and I don't speak a word of French, so I'm sure some of the comedy was lost on me, because it's hard to read comedy, in my opinion at least. But, the movie still made me laugh, and still kept my attention all through out, even know I couldn't understand what was being said, and had to read it. The movie really stuck to Amélie's imagination, and how she views life, it was a very interesting thing to see.

   Not many people can handle movies with subtitles, immediately you do lose some of the flair of the movie, when you are stuck reading everything that is being said. You may miss what's happening on screen at times, or lose the inflection in someones voice and it may take away from their character. But, more often then not, you end up missing good movies if you swear off films you have to read through. Please, don't do that with Amélie watch it, you'll enjoy it, I recommend it.

Due Date

   So, I may be a little biased going into Due Date, because, Robert Downey Jr is one of my favorite actors, so, of course it's hard to see him do wrong. Now, this movie was quite funny. It was however very much a remake of Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.

   Due Date is about a father to be (Robert Downey Jr) trying to make his way home to see the birth of his first child. Along the way he meets an aspiring actor, who makes that a much more difficult task to complete, as they struggle to make their way cross country.

   I enjoyed this movie, but, a lot of the really funny parts were already shown in the trailers promoting it. That didn't stop me from laughing as much as I did though. Zach Galifianakis was hilarious, even know his character was just a slight tweak from the one he played in The Hangover. The two actors had great chemistry on screen though, which made it that much more fun.

   Due Date was quite enjoyable and I would definitely recommend a watch when you have the time and are in the mood for a good laugh.
