Arthur

   This was the 2011 Russell Brand remake. I have to say, I heard a whole lot of bad about it, but, I enjoyed it myself. A lot of people don't like Russell Brand, and I can see why, but, I think he's a funny guy and enjoy watching him in movies. After all the horror I had heard about this movie, I started it up cringing waiting to regret even starting it. It never happened though, I laughed quite a bit, and thought it was a pretty decent remake.

   A drunken playboy(Russell Brand) stands to lose all of his wealth when he falls in love with a woman his mother doesn't approve of. Trying to reign him in, his nanny(Helen Mirren) attempts to lead him in the right direction.

   Yeah, I don't know about that synopsis either, oh well, you get the idea. The movie was funny, had a few good laugh out load moments. It was however what I refer to as "stupid comedy" which is something, when done right, I just love to see. Perhaps that is one of the reasons I enjoy Russell Brand, he does a lot of stupid things that I find to be funny. I know a lot of people who would just find this movie dumb, but, I loved it.

   Now, I've seen the original Arthur, even know it was quite a bit before my time, it was, however, years ago when I say so I can't really compare this remake to the original. All I can say is I liked this version of Arthur, I thought it was funny, and well done. If you like comedy, and drunken benders, I'd definitely recommend this movie to you.

Season of the Witch

   This movie has been getting the short end of the stick, a lot of people have been calling it a horrible movie, and I have to say, they were correct to a point. However, it wasn't as bad as people have made out. That one thing is certain.

   Season of the Witch is about two Knights Templar (Nicolas Cage, Ron Perlman) who desert after disagreeing on an attack they were ordered to make. Their journey away from the church brought them to a village anguished by a plague thought to be the work of a witch. After being discovered as deserters they agree to bring the witch to trail, a journey they thought to be simple will soon be the greatest test of will they've ever undergone.

   At first I was put off by the movie, but, as it continued on I became more intrigued with what was happening, and what was going to happen. The acting wasn't the greatest throughout, Nicolas Cage seemed to really phone in his performance, Ron Perlman isn't a bad actor, he just seems to play the same character in every movie. I have always been interested in medieval themed films, and films about the occult, that kept me quite entertained throughout.

   I don't think I'll ever watch this movie again, but, I don't feel like I wasted my time watching it either. So, if you're a fan of any of the actors in the film, or of the theme the filmed is based on, I'd recommend a watch.

Gulliver's Travels

   Now, I'm not the biggest fan of Jack Black, but, I am a fan of Jason Segel, and that's the reason I decided to see this movie. Let's be honest it had some funny bits, but, was pretty bad overall. Most of it is what I deemed to be "awkward comedy" which I'm just not a fan of.

   Gulliver's Travels is about a mail room clerk who, when trying to work up the courage to ask a co-worker out ends up accepting a writing job to the Bermuda triangle. The trip goes wrong and he ends up on an island filled with people no bigger then a toy, and after befriending these people, struggles to find a reason to come home.

   The movie was good enough to keep me awake throughout the film, but I have no plans of ever watching it again, and I definitely don't plan to bring up the film in conversation. Just wasn't that enjoyable, so much to the fact that I can't even think of anything else to write for this review. It's had a few funny moments, but overall was pretty bad, I do not recommend a viewing.
